SIL Congress Travel Award
Information on the Wetzel Memorial Fund

Award Background:

 The Robert G. Wetzel Memorial Fund was created in 2005 through a request from Robert G. Wetzel. Following one of Robert Wetzel’s highest priorities, this fund will be used each congress to pay SIL-related expenses of young limnologists throughout the world that might otherwise be unable to participate in SIL activities. The Wetzel Memorial Fund is used for travel support of those who are presenting a paper at the current congress meeting. The first time this award was given was for the 2013 SIL Congress in Budapest.

 The awards from the Wetzel Memorial Fund will be of up to US$1,000, based on the financial needs demonstrated by the applicant.

Candidates must comply with the following criteria:

  • Have been a SIL member in the year prior to the congress (in this case, prior to May 5, 2023. Becoming a SIL member now will not qualify you.
  • Present at the congress.
  • Previous award recipients are not eligible to apply again
